Stoke-on-Trent Council Careers Service

In partnership with Stoke-on-Trent Council Careers Service the Academy ensures it provides access to impartial careers information, advice and guidance. The Careers Service holds the Matrix quality standard for careers advice and guidance and all advisers are qualified to level 6 in Careers Guidance. Working together and having this joined up approach in the city is having an impact:

We aim to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes and encourage students  to consider a wide range of careers. Through careers education and guidance it is hoped that students will be encouraged to make the most of their talents and to go on to jobs or courses which suit their needs and intelligence.

In particular we intend our students to:

  • develop a broad understanding of the world of work and an ability to respond to changing opportunities
  • develop independent research skills so that they can make good use of information and guidance
  • develop and use their self-knowledge when thinking about and making choices
  • develop the skills they need to review achievements, plan future actions, make decisions, present themselves well and cope with change and transition.

Careers Education and Guidance Across the Year Groups

From September 2017 CEIAG will be provided during tutor time across all year groups alongside our regular PSHE Days.

Year 7 and 8

CEIAG is delivered through PSHE Days where students are delivered a day’s programme around Careers Education and Guidance.

Year 9

In Year 9, students also receive Careers Education and Guidance through anPSHE Day. Colleges and training providers are invited into the Academy to deliver workshops. We also provide a Careers Fair within the Academy where local colleges, training providers, universities and businesses are invited. Year 9 students also receive information on options and an Options Evening is provided where Academy staff and colleges are available to speak to.

Year 10

In Year 10 CEIAG is provided through a PSHE Day as well as a college experience throughout the Summer Term.

Year 11

In Year 11 students take part in Aspirations Day. Students receive a Mock Results Day experience. Local colleges and training providers are invited into the Academy to provide information based on students’ mock results. Students also have mock interviews in preparation for their college/apprenticeships interviews. Students are provided with lunchtime sessions to help with their college applications. Again the local colleges and training providers are invited in to assist with this.

Colleges are invited to all Parents Evenings as well, to be a source of information for both students and parents. Transport is provided for students and parents to attend College and University Open Days and Evenings.
