Another Great Community Event

Another Great Community Event

Last week we opened our doors up to the local community for our Arts and Book Evening. Despite a turn in the weather, lots of parents and carers attended, with plenty on offer for them to immerse themselves in. The event was held for the first time last year and given its resounding success, it has now become an annual occurrence.

Our CYLs (Co-operative Young Leaders) once again drew plaudits as they were instrumental in the running of the event, starting by welcoming visitors in our reception area, which also saw the very talented Mr Hall stun guests with his piano playing.

Upon entering, visitors then had the chance to visit two books stalls. The first a stall from Tunstall Library, the second a stall from our own library. Led by Mrs Higgs and Mrs Jones, our stall saw a finely tuned quiz were visitors had to guess the author. Alongside this, our CYLs held a guess the book quiz, which proved hugely popular.

Our impressive Eco Club had their own stall, selling reusable Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent bottles for a bargain price of £1, as they continue to rally against plastics in the environment. Even more fun awaited as our students ran their own activities. These included making your own bookmark to take home with you, as well as designing your own plate with one chosen as the best, winning lots of prizes. Alongside this was a sweet stand, with students packaging the sweets themselves and selling them, whilst a member of our PTFA baked some amazing cakes which were free.
We also had a book corner with students reading excerpts from their favourite books as well as some brilliant poetry recital.

The backdrop to all of this was our music corner. Working with Cathy Lamb from Lichfield Cathedral, some of our talented students performed to the crowds of visitors, who also took part in some of the performances. Our music students also enthralled with their guitar and drum playing. To top it all off, every visitor walked away with a free book, as the night proved once again to be hugely successful.
