Duke of Edinburgh Award
19 of our very able Year 9 students recently went to Cannock Chase to practice their Bronze DofE expedition section.
The session was action-packed as the students embarked upon learning vital skills in map reading and orienteering, as well as working together in putting up tents; packing rucksacks and cooking on open stoves. Once they had successfully navigated those, they carried on their hard work by tackling heat stroke and dehydration as well as creating a stretcher with a survival bag and learning how to survive in an open space.
Mrs Taylor and Miss Dawson also played their part alongside group leader Mrs Turner-Bradbury who said: “Everyone was brilliant. The weather was unbelievable, but that meant they had to work harder than normal carrying their rucksacks. Everyone was exceptional and it was a pleasure to be in their company.”
