National Lottery Funding
“It is exercise alone that supports the spirits, and keeps the mind in vigour.” Marcus Tullius Cicero.
We are delighted to announce that we have been successful in our bid for National Lottery funding for our ‘Healthy Body = Healthy Mind’ project. We will be having up to £10,000 of sports equipment installed at our Academy.
The equipment that will be installed will be available to all students to use during recreational times, as well as during class times and as part of The Edge.
Research shows that just 10 minutes of physical activity can have a positive effect on your mental health and wellbeing. It can also help develop resilience, confidence, self-esteem and new social connections.
Participation in regular physical activity can increase self-esteem as well as reduce stress and anxiety.
The charity Mind also states that… ‘It also plays a role in preventing the development of mental health problems and in improving the quality of life of people experiencing mental health problems.’
The funding received by the National Lottery will enable us to keep physical activity on everybody’s mind. Our students are already active but this will help to maintain that enthusiasm and encourage others to use the brand new equipment.
Teacher of PE Mrs Chilton said: ‘This is fantastic news. And great for our Academy. Being fit and active is not only important for a healthy body, but this will help students (and staff) in a variety of other ways. It will have a positive influence on self-esteem and self-worth – meaning happier students ready to learn.’
We are delighted that the National Lottery has supported us with this funding, and can’t wait for the equipment to be installed so we can start using it. Keep checking our website for our launch, where we will showcase all of the equipment.
