Since qualifying as a teacher of English in 2004 I have worked in a variety of schools across the Midlands and north of England. In all of the schools in which I have served, I have had the great privilege to teach English to some fantastic young people, and to watch them grow into confident citizens ready to take their place in the wider world. From working as a Head of English, an Advanced Skills Teacher, and Specialist Leader in Education, I have worked in a diverse range of schools, always with the same goal in mind: to secure the very best teaching and learning experiences for young people by working collaboratively with students, staff and parents. As an Assistant Headteacher, my focus has been on strategically raising achievement to help students deliver on their exceptional potential.
As Vice Principal my focus will be working with everyone in the Academy community to ensure every student experiences great teaching, so that they are empowered to be the very best that they can be. This is my third role in school leadership, and I am delighted to be working with a team of staff who put students at the heart of Academy life, and who want only the very best for young people. I am joining the Academy at a time when it has experienced considerable success, and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to its continued evolution, such that it becomes the best in Stoke on Trent.
Ultimately, our role as teachers is a privileged one: we get to support young people to give life to their hopes and aspirations. That is the power of education, and one we, as teachers, have been given the opportunity to harness, so that the ambitions that each child harbours today, can become their future reality.
