Luo Chen Shines on Speak Up Council

We are incredibly proud of Year 9 student Luo Chen, who represented Stoke-on-Trent at the National Theatre’s Speak Up Council Residential in London. This programme, now in its second year at the academy, is designed to amplify student voices and connect young people with artists and changemakers to inspire positive change in their communities.
The residential was packed with impactful sessions, including a welcome from Alice King-Farlow, the National Theatre’s Director of Learning and National Partnerships. Students participated in a Q&A with Artistic Director Rufus Norris, where they shared their experiences and explored the leadership skills they have developed as Student Representatives.
Luo Chen joined other representatives in collaborating on plans for the final year of the programme, discussing ideas for the Speak Up celebration events in summer 2025, ensuring student voices remain central to the initiative.
Speak Up is an invaluable opportunity for our students to engage with professionals, share their ideas, and feel empowered to make a difference. We are so proud of Luo Chen and the role he is playing in representing our academy and the voices of young people.
