Unforgettable Experience for Students on Madrid Trip

A group of students from Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent recently embarked on an incredible trip to Madrid, experiencing the culture, history, and excitement of Spain’s stunning capital city. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to practise their Spanish, explore iconic landmarks, and immerse themselves in local traditions.
Organised and led by Mrs Askey, Assistant Headteacher and Head of MFL, alongside Mr Hardman, Ms Saunders, and Mr Deaville, the trip was packed with unforgettable experiences.
Students explored the Palacio Real, one of Europe’s most impressive royal palaces, marvelling at its grand architecture, lavish rooms, and historic significance. They walked in the footsteps of Spanish kings and queens while learning about the country’s monarchy and traditions.
A major highlight for many was the visit to Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home to Real Madrid. Stepping inside the legendary arena, students got a behind-the-scenes look at the changing rooms, trophy cabinets, and even had the chance to walk pitch-side, imagining what it would be like to play in front of thousands of passionate fans.
The group also enjoyed time in Retiro Park, one of Madrid’s most beautiful green spaces. Here, students took a break from sightseeing, soaking up the sunshine, relaxing by the stunning lake, and admiring the park’s famous Crystal Palace.
A visit to the bustling Gran Vía gave students the chance to shop and take in the lively atmosphere of Madrid’s most famous street, while a stop at the historic Plaza Mayor and the Mercado de San Miguel offered a taste of authentic Spanish life. At the market, students explored the vibrant food stalls, practising their Spanish while ordering delicious local delicacies.
No trip to Madrid would be complete without trying churros con chocolate, and students were lucky enough to visit the world-famous La Chocolatería San Ginés to enjoy this traditional treat. The combination of crispy churros dipped in rich, warm chocolate was a firm favourite with everyone!
Throughout the trip, students represented the academy with fantastic behaviour and enthusiasm, embracing every opportunity to practise their Spanish and engage with the local culture. Their curiosity, respect, and positivity were noted by staff and locals alike, making us incredibly proud.
A huge thank you to Mrs Askey, Mr Hardman, Ms Saunders, and Mr Deaville for making this unforgettable trip possible. The experience will no doubt leave lasting memories for all who took part, inspiring a love for travel, language, and culture!
