PSHE (Personal, social, health and economic education) is an important aspect of school life and is essential in the development of young people’s lives.

PSHE education contributes to the totality of the students’ learning experiences. It helps students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage many of the critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face as they grow up and in adulthood.

PSHE education in our academy is a school subject taught through Tutor Time and timetabled PSHE lessons. It is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes that students need to keep healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain.

PSHE at our academy is intended to have an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for students.

Our PSHE programme aims to develop skills and attributes such as leadership, organisation, initiative, communication, resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, teamwork and critical thinking in the context of learning grouped into three core themes;

• relationships
• living in the wider world.

As an academy, in partnership with parents, we have a vital role in preparing children and young people to negotiate the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly complex world. Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is the school subject that deals with real-life issues affecting our children, families and communities. It’s concerned with the social, health and economic realities of their lives, experiences and attitudes. It supports pupils to be healthy (mentally and physically); safe (online and offline) and equipped to thrive in their relationships and careers. PSHE education helps all children and young people — no matter what their social background or previous academic achievement — to achieve their fullest potential.
